Lindsay System Chanter Lessons :

Intended to support players of the Lindsay System chanter, we are now offering the opportunity to book one to one instruction via Lindstruments.

Instruction can be delivered in person in Glasgow, Scotland, or via Skype as suits the recipient. Please note that lesson availability and times are strictly limited, as all are currently delivered by Donald WG Lindsay, founder of Lindstruments and inventor of the Lindsay System chanter.

To receive lessons, students will require to have a set of Scottish smallpipes in "A", equipped with a Lindsay System chanter.

Lessons are 50 minutes long. Half lessons of 25 minutes length are also available.

Lessons will focus specifically on tuition for the Lindsay System chanter, however support with other aspects of piping such as bellows technique, drone tuning, pipe maintenance can also be provided as needed.

If in doubt, contact us to check available times or to discuss details.

Chanter Rental :

For those who would like to try out the chanter, a rental option is available with a booking of five or more lessons. Hire chanters are or a different construction to the full-spec chanters, charcoal black in colour, however they have the same core range and playing technique and will allow the new player to make an initial exploration of the Lindsay system with direct support via a course of lessons.

Chanter hire is currently charged at a flat rate of £35 for the duration of your course of lessons. a returnable deposit of £150 is included in the prices shown above, plus a non-refundable payment of £40 for a cane reed (which the player may keep when returning the chanter). Outward postage will be charged at time of booking, while return postage (which should be by registered airmail or equivalent), and the general care of the chanter, are the hirers responsibility.

Donald currently leads Scottish smallpipe classes at The National Piping Centre, Otago Street, and for the Scots Music Group's adult learning project in Edinburgh and while instruction can be sought here it is recommended that instruction specifically in the Lindsay System chanter be carried out on a one-to-one basis.
