The ‘Paper’ Qwistle v2.1 – lightweight practice whistle in D

The ‘Paper’ Qwistle v2.1 is a super lightweight, 3D-printed pennywhistle in D, designed by Donald WG Lindsay. It’s popular as a sweet-sounding, low-volume practice whistle for whistlers who want something enjoyable to play at home without filling the house (or annoying neighbours).

Key features

  • Ultra-lightweight, 3D-printed D whistle – version 2.1.

  • Very quiet, sweet tone, ideal for home practice rather than sessions or gigs.

  • Well-tuned throughout, with an easy range up to E in the third register.

  • Smooth octave transitions; both high and low registers are smooth and sweet.

About the ‘Paper’ construction

Developed to make the most of accessible industrial 3D printers, the ‘Paper’ Qwistle is so named for its 0.7 mm wall thickness, grainy, paper-like surface texture and white colour. In practice it is made from powdered plastic and is deceptively robust in ordinary use – highly functional and, for a 3D-printed object, surprisingly inexpensive.

It is quieter and lighter than the thicker-walled High D Qwistle, making it better suited to living rooms than loud sessions, and often appreciated by neighbours, family members and pets.

Optional ‘Kist’ case

If required, a budget ‘Kist’ can be produced to house your ‘Paper’ Qwistle. This can be laser-cut from corrugated card or lightweight ply. Prices are currently on application; the mini-kist will be listed separately on the site in due course.
